TYPICAL DAY

Our day starts in the 'quiet room' for registration and a chance to talk about the day: date, weather, our topic for the week - and anything else the children may want to discuss. We then move to the main room where the children are free to select whichever activity catches their attention.

Tables will be set up with items of interest designed to cover elements of the six main areas of learning (see prospectus) and will change on a daily basis in accordance with our detailed planning.

Other resources will always be available for the children to choose from, such as: dressing-up clothes, books, dolls, the train table, a climbing frame and slide, paper and crayons, pencils etc.. There will always be an adult-led activity in which the children are encouraged to participate. This is often craft-based, resulting in something nice to take home or put up on the wall! However it could also take the form of a simple experiment or perhaps the planting of seeds or plants for our outside area - the possibilities are full and varied!

The children are then encouraged to help with 'tidy-up time' after which hands are washed ready for snacks. We all gather to sing songs and then we split into key groups at tables for a drink, a snack and a little conversation.

Weather permitting, we then go outside for some fresh air. In the summer the children can play in sand-pits or at the water table (always remembering to water anything we have planted!) in addition to using other equipment such as cars, bikes, scooters, slides, bean bags and hoops. In inclement weather we stay inside but aim to do physical activities such as music & movement or using the parachute.

The session draws to a close with a return to the 'quiet room' for a story or two and the whole group singing our good-bye song.
